Launch of 67000 litres for Mandela Day
As the world reflects on Nelson Mandela’s legacy, we give thanks for his life, his leadership and his devotion to humanity and to humanitarian causes.
No matter how small your action, Mandela Day is about changing the world for the better, just as Nelson Mandela did every day.
I am so grateful to have been apart of the Chefs with Compassion initiative which was started in April this year. The increased need for food that was brought upon from the effects of the COVID19 pandemic. Our main aim is to rescue food that is wasted from producers and markets and is destined for the landfills.
In South Africa, 10 million tonnes of food go to waste every year. That’s a third the 31 million tonnes produced annually in South Africa. Of this, fruits, vegetables and cereals account for 70% of the wastage and loss primarily throughout the food supply chain – from farm to fork.
Just in the last 3 months alone, Chefs with Compassion was able to rescue 194 000 tonnes of produce and we created 368 000 meals…
Please join in our Mandela Day initiative and make a difference. Every hand, donation, service, effort and litre counts! Let’s get involved and make that difference!
Keep the passion!
