Women’s Day
On 9 August 1956, more than 20,000 South African women of all races staged a march on the Union Buildings in protest against the proposed amendments to the Urban Areas Act of 1950.
Women’s Day is a celebration of the achievements of these women and millions more.
Today we celebrate the great achievements over many years of struggle to ensure that the role of women in society and in public life is recognised and affirmed.
We celebrate the many women who have excelled in fields from which they have traditionally been excluded, who today occupy positions of authority and responsibility and we celebrate the great strides being made by young women in the fields of farming, medicine, science, arts, entrepreneurship and politics.
However, while we celebrate these milestones and achievements we need to give women the RESPECT they ultimately deserve. Let’s pay homage to all the mothers, daughters, sisters, wives, neighbours, colleagues, friends and all the women around us. THANK YOU for all you do to make this society a better place for all.
Wathint’Abafazi Wathint’imbokodo!
“you strike a woman, you strike a rock”
Happy Women’s Day to you all!
Keep the passion!
